United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District has conducted a strategic assessment of our community investment approach and goals for community impact. To adapt to the dynamic environment and enhance funding accessibility, address inequities, and cater to our community's evolving requirements, we have modified our investment model. The aim is to introduce greater flexibility in the provision of funding and create more avenues for organizations to access funding in a manner that aligns better with their needs. To do this, we are working towards building impact in 3 focus areas.
When seeking funding, organizations should carefully assess the specific focus area for which they are applying. It is crucial to complete the application with thoughtful consideration of the objectives, anticipated outcomes, and relevant measures associated with the chosen focus area.
Resilience in children and youth through emotional wellbeing, because we know that helping to prevent and
mitigate adverse childhood experiences is both urgent and foundational to lifelong potential
Belonging, inclusion, and connection to supports in community, because we know
that isolation, mental health, and informal and formal supports continue to be critical needs
Aligned collaborative supports for food, housing, and financial security, because we know individuals
and families need comprehensive opportunities to stabilize, recover, and build their futures
When individuals from the Algoma District donate, their contributions are specifically directed towards the District Grants program. These funds are reserved to support registered charities operating in district communities, ensuring that donor dollars stay within the district. The District Grants program supports initiatives aligned with United Way’s three strategic focus areas:
Moving People from Poverty to Possibility,
Helping Kids Be All They Can Be, and
Building Strong Communities.
In Sault Ste. Marie, donations are allocated to initiatives benefiting the local community. United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District collaborates with multiple community partners to address poverty and other challenges impacting individuals and families. Through focused strategies in our three core areas—Poverty to Possibility, Helping Kids Be All They Can Be, and Building Strong Communities—we work to reduce the effects of low income and improve the overall well-being of our city’s residents.
